Medical School Scholarships for Women

List of Medical School Scholarships for Women

It’s hard to ignore the sizable seat women continue to carve for themselves in the medical school realm.

According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 48% of medical school graduates in 2011 were women – a 12.3% boost from two decades ago. And their in-school labors are proving fruitful for long-term careers. As the Bureau goes on to state, nearly 34% of all physicians and surgeons were women, and 69.7% of all medical and health service managers – a far cry from the measly numbers female doctors posted just 50 years prior.

But as many strides as women have made in the field, the arena is still defined by its “boy’s club” status. And what’s more, sciences and math still tend to be less emphasized subjects for school-age girls, making the transition into the medical realm somewhat more difficult. In order to ensure the medical field receives the kind of female staffing it deserves, many accredited organizations have begun offering substantial medical school scholarships for women.

      Hi Carissa,
There are many scholarships you can apply to for medical schools. The safest route for you to take as a graduating senior is to meet with a financial adviser at your intended college and ask them for a list of trusted scholarship providing websites. This will help you avoid any scams or scholarships that don’t work with your school. Make an appointment with your school’s financial adviser and they will guide you toward the scholarship resources that suit you best. Thanks for asking!
