Foundational Concept 8: Content Category 8A

Content category 8A within foundational concept 8 inside the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section of the new MCAT exam primarily focuses on the notion of self and identity formation. It also covers the role of self-esteem, self-efficacy and locus of control in the development of self-concept. Concept category 8A is the first of three concept categories within foundational concept 8.

As the illustration shows, your knowledge of the coursework in one semester of introductory psychology as well as one semester of introductory sociology will be tested in content category 8A. The questions within foundational concept 8 make up 20% of the overall questions found in the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section of the MCAT exam.
