Four-year M.D. program curriculum The curriculum at VCOM is innovative and modern. The faculty recognizes that students learn in a number of ways. Students generally assimilate a knowledge base through instruction, reading, and experience. VCOM developed a hybrid curriculum consisting of lectures, computerized case tutorials, laboratory experiences, clinical skills laboratories, and clinical experiences throughout the four years.

Four-year M.D. program curriculum A new Cells-to-Society curriculum addresses patient care in multiple domains of medicine, especially biomedical science, society, culture, and economics. In Foundations of Medicine and Core Systems students learn normal human biology; then apply it to solve clinical cases in small physician led groups. A set of Core Clerkships are followed by a menu of Selectives and almost unlimited Electives.

Four-year M.D. program curriculum The first year focuses on structure and function, and the second year covers pathologic displays in treatment of disease. An M1/M2 longitudinal course provides clinical experience with physicians and small group instruction on basic clinical medicine. M3 students receive clinical training, rotating through various hospitals and ambulatory services. M4 students choose from a variety of electives.
