The College of Medicine is implementing a new
integrated systems-based curriculum which spans all four years of
the program. Students will have earlier clinical experiences and
increased opportunities for translational research during the
clinical clerkships. The third and fourth years consist of the
required core clinical clerkships as well as several weeks of
selective clerkships. |

Years 1 & 2 contain 4 interdisciplinary blocks and
a year-long Early Clinical Experience where students learn patient
care requirements with Master Clinical Teachers and community
preceptors. Year 3 has 6 8-week clerkships and a year long
Continuity Clinic experience; Year 4 has 1 month in Neurology, 2
selectives, a sub-internship and 4 elective months. |

The first two academic years are divided into four
semesters which are devoted to preparing the student for clerkship
experiences in the clinical years. The student progresses through a
series of clinical clerkships in the major disciplines for the next
12 months. In the remaining year, there are four months of required
clerkships and five to seven months of electives.

organ-system modules. Learning experiences in patient communication
and physical exam skills begin in the first year with standardized
patients in a state-of-the-art clinical skills center and continues
into second year when students work with actual patients. For the
